Friends, I’m going to do a little experiment in this space.
I’d like to see what it would look like to do something of a Smaller Slower Lesser Lower Book Club.
But instead of meeting together in a room, sitting in a circle, and talking in hushed tones about our feelings on a chapter of a book we’re all reading…
And instead of inviting you to a ZOOM meet-up where someone forgets to mute while their dog is barking and my WiFi goes haywire so you only hear every third word and everything is generally suboptimal…
And instead of trying to figure out group sizes and meeting spaces and time zones for everyone everywhere…
We’re going to try something else. Smaller, slower, lesser, and lower style.
Each week, anyone who wants to join this club can read a chapter of our book selection (schedule below). And, each week, I’ll post a short bit on that chapter - starting with a direct, key quote from the author and maybe expanding an idea or telling a short story to illustrate an important point. I’ll ask a question or two with a simple prompt. And then you can respond here in the comments, on Facebook posts on my page, or not at all.
If you choose not to participate in reading, I suspect you can still glean a ton from following along. If you want to go deeper or have a more personal or sensitive bit of feedback, you can always email me directly: kyle@bgcovenant.org
Simple, right?
Ok. As you may have noticed from the photo above, the book selection for this experiment is Forgive by Tim Keller.
Why this book? Basically, our society is really bad at the messiness of relationship. Our default in modern culture is to cancel anything and anyone that disagrees with us. We mute people. Unsubscribe. Cut off. Move on.
I think it’s really, really toxic for our souls. And this book is a breath of fresh air in how to relate to a complicated world with love and grace. There is RADICAL FREEDOM for you here.
So here is your invitation: Join me. Let’s learn and grow and consider what it looks like to forgive and live unburdened in our modern age. Feel free to share this with others who might be interested and subscribe to get each post delivered to your inbox using the buttons below.
