Random coincidence, I read "Augustus" by Adrian Goldsworthy on vacation. Many people will be aware that the month of August is named for him but not aware that it was Augustus himself who did the naming. Ya gotta admit it takes some serious chutzpah to just up and name a month after yourself. Also, his real name was Gaius Octavius (or just plain ol Octavian)
ok.. wow. I had to read this several times. In my recent research for a presentation on Esther, I found out that King Xerxes son (not Esther's, btw) also murdered his father.. it appears to be the 'thing' to do if one wanted to get ahead in the world back then.. and your siblings too... and mom, aunt's, uncle's, cousins, and anyone remotely related to your family... .you get my drift.
As Solomon wisely said in Ecclesiastes. 1:9: "What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again, there is nothing new under the sun."
The striving for power, prestige and control will always be within a person. But, I thank our Lord daily that he loved us so much that he came to save us from ourselves. Such powerful love overwhelms me.
Perhaps we don’t violently kill our parents now…instead our culture figuratively does away with them by ignoring their wisdom and refusing their influence.
I know.. we just watch the movie “12 Angry Men”.. released in 1957, starring Henry Fonda. There is a character in that movie who is elderly. How the other jurists treat him is exactly how we treat our elderly today: dismissive, ignored, rude, belligerent. But his observations were spot on. The only reason his observations were considered valid was due to the main character listening to him and telling others to listen.
Our society puts too much emphasis on the wisdom, such as it is, from the young. They forget that the elderly have lived through everything, made those mistakes.. and learned valuable lessons from them.
This was dreadful!!!!
You’re welcome? I’m sorry? 🫣❤️

Interesting observations.

Which is then a slower and possibly more painful death.
